Metro Search and Rescue videos and gallery is updated on regularly. We mostly operate in the Nelson Mandela Bay area (Port Elizabeth) and surrounding towns. However, we do operate across the Eastern Cape and even across South Africa – if the situation arises. Watch our dogs do evidence detection drills for crime scene management as well as tracking in various scenarios. Our dogs specifically deal with live human scent detection. In 2020, the 15 member unit will undergo firefighting training to assist in the event of a major fire outbreak.
Committed to service excellence and efficiency, the Search and Rescue team – together with Nelson Mandela Bay Disaster Management – is continuously finding ways to improve.
Metro Disaster Management head Shane Brown, who oversees the unit, is constantly liaising with law enforcement and emergency service role-players to assist in getting the team the training they need.
